Commencement and Convocations

New Student Convocation – August 24, 2012, 10:00 a.m., Patriot Center

Each year George Mason University welcomes incoming freshmen and transfer students with a day of programming that introduces them to university life and concludes with a rally attended by various administrators. This year, in a new tradition, we begin the day with a welcome ceremony in the Patriot Center to introduce the student to their new academic life and what it will mean to be a George Mason University graduate. Faculty and staff are encouraged to attend and welcome the newest members of the university community. Lunch will follow the ceremony, after which students will attend various workshops as part of extended orientation coordinated by University Life.

Winter Convocation — December 20, 2012, 1:00-3:00 p.m., Patriot Center

George Mason University will hold its first formal ceremony recognizing December graduates on December 20, 2012, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the Patriot Center. This ceremony is similar to the May college convocations in that all students in attendance will be individually recognized and doctoral students will be hooded. Students and faculty will be in full regalia. There will be light refreshments provided after the ceremony.

Students will be invited to attend the May commencement ceremony the following year.  Colleges and schools may invite these students to attend the individual college convocation ceremonies in May if space permits.

Information on Commencement is available through the Office of Events Management.
