The Office of Institutional Assessment (OIA) supports the university’s ongoing mission to provide the best possible educational experience for its students. OIA works with the university community to support candid, reflective, systematic and ongoing assessment practices.
OIA oversees the assessment of student learning outcomes through the Mason Core, academic degree programs through the Academic Program Review process, and the assessment of specific competencies in critical skills for the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV). OIA also conducts survey research on students’ experiences at the university.
Finally, OIA is responsible for ensuring regular evaluation of the effectiveness of all academic and administrative units through annual assessment reporting. By planning and reporting assessment information through the Tk20 system, academic and administrative leaders are able to improve decision-making processes in their units.
