Honor Societies

Honor societies recognize students who excel in academic achievement or a particular field.

Students can join multiple societies, which can provide access to scholarships and grants, create lifelong friendships, increase participation in campus activities, and open paths to careers.

Why join an Academic Honor Society?

All academic honor societies bestow honor, recognition, and lifetime distinction. Consider these benefits college honor societies offer:

• Having an honor society listed on your resume provides a tangible sign of your academic success.
• Honor societies, especially those serving a single academic discipline, help to keep members current in their fields through publications and by means of local, state, regional, and national meetings.
• Honor societies provide members with more insight into disciplines than can be gained through classroom experience alone.
• Federal Employment: In a letter dated April 13, 1973, the U.S. Civil Service Commission stated, "Membership in a national honor society meets one of the requirements for entrance at the GS-7 level in numerous professional and technical occupations in the Federal service. However, applicants must meet all of the requirements as described in the particular Federal Job Announcement covering the positions for which they apply."
