Data-driven decision making builds student success.
The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA) provides information and analyses for data-driven decision-making, oversight to ensure the integrity of institutional data, and guidance and support for administrative and student learning outcomes assessment. OIRA is responsive to the needs of institutional and external stakeholders by providing timely, accurate and accessible information and support.
OIRA is the primary source of official data for state, federal and other external agencies about George Mason University’s:
OIRA is responsible for disseminating institutional data to internal and external constituents, including accreditors, state and local government, and national higher education data projects.
The information and services provided by OIRA are intended to ensure consistent and coherent measurement of the university’s effectiveness and achievements.

OIRA further supports Mason’s mission and goals by ensuring continuous and systematic evaluation of the effectiveness of all academic and administrative units. This is accomplished primarily through the Academic Program Review process and annual assessment reporting in the Tk20 assessment management system.
OIRA also conducts survey research pertaining to student experiences and educational outcomes.
