The Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning helps the university plan for the future by collecting and analyzing performance data, predicting potential outcomes, and identifying areas for improvement and growth.

About Us

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning (OIEP) advances Mason's strategic goals by engaging partners in data-informed strategic, operational, and tactical decision-making at all levels. We produce quality information by: 

  • Using structured, multi-step processes, and proven methodologies 
  • Exploring at micro and macro levels to uncover disparity of experience 
  • Researching and implementing new and innovative analytic strategies 

We aim to foster a community of inquiry and innovation that positions individuals and units to make impactful decisions around student and faculty success.  

How We Support Students

  • Analyze data on student success, including retention, graduation rates, job placement rates, and student engagement, to make sure students are achieving academic and career goals 
  • Makes sure student feedback is considered and incorporated into faculty teaching through the administration of Student Evaluations of Teaching 
  • Conduct regular assessments of academic programs to ensure they are meeting the needs of students 

How We Support Faculty

  • Offer an array of comprehensive dashboards, interactive reports, and survey results to support faculty, staff, and programs  
  • Offer workshops on how to use dashboards, learn about survey results, assessment processes, and special analytic briefs  
  • Provide faculty members with guidance and assistance in formulating data or research related needs and survey instrument development
