Adjunct Faculty Information

Mason is fortunate to enhance our academic community by leveraging the expertise of our regional knowledge base as adjunct faculty who provide rich, relevant learning experiences for our students.

Your academic unit will work with the Office of the Provost to set up the administrative details of your faculty appointment. Information about adjunct faculty appointments, including faculty salary minimums, submission of transcripts, and offer letters are all available.

Mason recognizes the critical role that our adjunct faculty members play in educating our students successfully. We honor this significant contribution through the annual Adjunct Faculty Teaching Excellence Awards.

New Adjunct Faculty Orientation

Orientations for new adjunct faculty are held approximately one week before classes begin for the semester each January and August. Please work with your department to ensure that you are registered for this event.

The orientation is specifically designed to meet the unique needs and challenges faced by adjunct faculty and to support the transition to campus. The programming includes a broad overview of working at Mason, including orientation to HR services available to adjunct faculty, the basics of teaching and learning and a resource fair. The day-long event covers training on Blackboard, the university's instructional management framework, and required FERPA (Federal Educational Right to Privacy Act) compliance.  Mason is committed to providing engaging and applicable educational experience to our students. At the Adjunct Faculty Orientation, you will receive guidance and hands-on work time designing your courses with that goal in mind.

The spring 2018 New Adjunct Faculty Orientation will be held on Saturday, January 13th, 2018.

Breakfast and lunch are provided. Please bring your laptop to use during the hands-on Blackboard software training.

Check-in will begin at 9:00 a.m. on the first floor of Alan and Sally Merten Hall.

Registration is required and restricted to new adjunct faculty members. Please check with the Human Resource (HR) liaison in your home department for specific registration procedures.

Free parking is available on Levels 1 and 2 of the Rappahannock River Parking Deck. Please do not park in the visitor parking section.
