Institutional Biosafety Committee protocols now managed in RAMP

Body

George Mason University’s Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) protocol review process was integrated with the institution’s Research Administration Management Portal (RAMP) on Oct. 9. RAMP is an enterprise-wide application that supports Mason’s growing research programs. All new IBC protocols, renewals, and modifications to existing protocols must be entered into RAMP. The RAMP Safety module can be accessed here. Training on how to navigate the application and submit a protocol can be found under the training section of the RAMP website and is available through MasonLEAPS

The fourth of eight modules to be implemented, RAMP Safety streamlines the university’s IBC protocol submission and approval process for researchers and administrators, enhances compliance, and reduces the administrative burden on research faculty and staff. This effort was a collaboration between Mason’s research community, Information Technology Services, Office of Sponsored Programs, and Environmental Health & Safety.

More information about the IBC and frequently asked questions regarding the transition to RAMP Safety can be found on the IBC webpage. For questions regarding the IBC process or submitting a protocol, email the committee. For assistance logging into the RAMP system, contact the ITS Support Center at (703) 993-8870 or via email.
